What are fetish carvings and jewelry?
Fetish carvings are stone animal carvings that are made by talented Native American artisans. Fetish carvings represent the animal spirit thought to reside in the stone. The Native Americans believe in six sacred directions, Above, North, East, South, West and Below. And each of those directions has a fetish animal associated with it. They are believed to have healing and protective powers and bring good luck. Please see our animal legends and stories pages. Some of the most popular animals include the eagle, mountain lion, wolf, bear, buffalo, badger and mole, but we have the most extensive collection of animals, fish, insects and reptiles that can be found. Special orders of an animal, the size, quantity, or arrangement on the jewelry can be requested. On special orders please remember each piece is handcrafted and allow for variations in the pieces and time taken to create your unique animal or jewelry.
